A friendly Dorset pub that sees its staff and visitors as one 'big family'- The Yachtsman is Pub of the Week.
The Yachtsman, built in the 1950s by Edward Woodhouse, is a well-known village pub with a nautical theme.
The pub is located in Hamworthy, to the edge of Poole and just a few hundred metres from Hamworthy park and beach, and has become a favourite of visitors and locals alike.
General manager, Olly Kenny, said: “The locals are a big thing for us here. There are three pubs in the area, and they all come here, and they all love it.
“The team gets invited to things outside of work by them. It’s a real community feel, it’s a big family inside a building”
Olly took the manager job 14 months ago but had worked on the premises as a head chef prior to his role change.
One of his favourite things about the Hall and Woodhouse pub is the décor- model yachts, photos of historic ocean liners, anchors and wooden oars can be seen on display throughout the premises.
He said: “I’ve worked in five different companies in my life, and I’ve never seen so many features in line with the name of the pub. We’re The Yachtsman and there’s yachts everywhere. I love that.”
But it is not just the coastal theme that draws visitors in; The Yachtsman is also popular for its classic English food, weekly specials boards, refreshing drinks, and weekly themed nights.
Customers can enjoy pie night on Wednesday, burger and quiz night on Thursday, and steak night on Saturday.
There is also opportunity throughout the week for dining locals to grab cheap prosecco, a 15 per cent discount, or a free kids meal.
As well as a busy Monday-Sunday calandar, The Yachtsman regularly becomes home to one-off community events, and has future plans to host live music performances.

Olly said: "We’ve just had our Sausage and Cider Festival. We had so many good responses. We had local houses phone up and ask when we’re doing it next. Even the people that didn’t come rang up to say they loved seeing it from their house.
"One said they’d lived over the road for 19 years and it’s the best thing they’ve seen coming from the pub."
