Drivers and visitors to the New Forest are being warned to take care as the pony drifts start up.

The New Forest Pony drifts begin again today, Friday August 19.

A spokesperson for the campaign group, New Forest Roads Awareness said: "After a delayed start due to the hot weather, the first drift will be at Bratley, close to the A31.

"Car parks will be closed for the mornings, up to about 2pm. We ask several things.

"1. Please avoid the area. for your safety, but more for the livestock. The wonderful agisters and Commoners need to be able to collect the livestock without interuption.

"2. If you see a closed car park, please do not block gateways, and find somewhere else to walk for that morning.

"3. If you are asked to stop or slow down by Drift Marshalls, please do as asked and treat them with repect. Cycle tracks within the area will be closed for your safety.

"4. Drifts (round ups) are vital for the welfare of our stock. We ask you to avoid the area. It's only for a few hours on one day in one area.

"5. Your support for our animals means so much #keepyourdistance #bepreparedtostop #animalsonroadsdayandnight"
