A WOMAN sustained minor injuries after a car overturned during heavy rain in north Dorset on Tuesday afternoon. 

Police were called to the scene of the incident at a junction near Motcombe at 5.16pm.  

Dorset Police said: "We were called at 5.16pm on Tuesday 16 August 2022 to report of single vehicle collision in Thanes Lane at the junction with the road to Motcombe.

"The vehicle had overturned.

"Female driver sustained minor injuries."

The road was closed following the incident and reopened at around 6.15pm during which time the vehicle was recovered.

Officers from North Dorset Police shared a picture of the incident on social media and urged people to take extra care during the bad weather. 

A spokesperson said: “Out driving? Make sure you remember to slow down and drive to the conditions, heavy rain and standing water can take the inexperienced and experienced driver by surprise - often with dramatic consequences."

Met Office warnings of thunderstorms have been in place for the past two days with a third and final yellow alert in force today.

The warning for thunderstorms ends at midnight tonight.

The Met Office said some places could see between 20mm to 30mm of rainfall in the space of an hour with 60mm of rain possible in as little as three hours.

According to the Met Office forecast, there’s a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms today between 12pm and 2pm and a 70 per chance at 3pm.
