HAVING lived on Canford Heath for over 30 years my family are only too well aware of the danger of heath fires and the devastation they cause to plants and wildlife.
Not long ago we faced the worst for many years, with humans inconvenienced by being evacuated and their fences burnt – let alone the distress and damage for the heath and its animals and birds.
Marks and Spencer have announced a ban on selling disposable barbecues.
Given the current desperately dry season surely it would be responsible for at least our local supermarket branches to ban them too?
I can’t believe they are still prominently displayed without even a warning sign.
