People are being told the 'leave the heath' after a huge fire has broken out at Studland this afternoon.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 1.12pm to a large fire at Studland heath involving undergrowth and gorse.

A spokesperson has described it has a 'fast-moving incident'.

Emergency services are accessing the heath via the Sandbanks Ferry.

All other vehicles were removed from the ferry.

A spokesperson for Dorset Fire said: "We have crews from Springbourne, Poole, Westbourne and Swanage in attendance, with other resources on the way. We are asking people to leave the heath for their own safety, and to avoid Ferry Road."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police added: "We were called at 1.33pm on Friday 12 August 2022 to a report of a fire on heath new Knowle Beach in Studland.

"Officers are in attendance and road closures are in place. We would ask people to please avoid the area at this time."

Yesterday a red alert for wildfires was issued across Dorset due to the dry weather and heatwave conditions.

Fire crews are also dealing with another field fire in Church Knowle neear Corfe Castle.
