A ONE-mile residential street surrounded by hundreds of homes will be shut for three days in total for resurfacing works – with some residents saying they weren’t informed.

West Way in Poole will be closed to all vehicles for two days in a row this month as well as a for a further day in September to allow for resurfacing, meaning cars parked on the street will be at risk of being towed.

The closures will encompass the entire road, located between Clarendon Road and Pinesprings Road, from 8am to 6pm on August 18 and 19 in order for crews to micro asphalt surfacing works to the carriageway. Similar work will also take place on August 18 in the nearby High Way road just off Upton Way.

Another all-day on closure West Way will then take place on September 1 for street sweeping and lining to take place.

During these times the road will be closed to all vehicles with a complete suspension of street parking and no waiting or loading/unloading will be permitted at any time either.

According to the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order granted by BCP Council, any vehicles left obstructing the works risk receiving a Fixed Penalty Notice and the vehicle being forcibly removed.

However, full emergency access will be maintained as will access to properties for residents “depending on site safety”.

On a notice placed on a lamppost down West Way, a communication reads: “The council regrets any inconvenience to the public caused by this temporary prohibition.”

Despite the lamppost notice, some residents on social media claim they were not informed about the works – while others said they had been sent letters.

One woman said: “We live in Lytchett Drive and have plans for the 19th so this is extremely annoying. I'm cross that we haven't been written to. Not everyone is on social media.”

Lytchett Drive is one of several cul-de-sacs or side roads only accessible via West Way.

Despite these claims, a BCP Council spokesperson said: “As part of our annual highway maintenance programme, we will be carrying out micro asphalt surfacing works on West Way in Poole.

“These improvements will require some temporary traffic management during the works, between Lytchett Drive and Bryony Close.

“On July 22, letters were sent to all the properties, including those in cul-de-sacs near to the area of the works, explaining the restrictions that would apply and how to contact us should they have any queries.”
