THE inquest into the death of the man hit by a train has opened.
Anthony Michael Flanagan, 44, of Bolton, died on July 31 after being hit by a train close to the level crossing in Sherborne.
A short hearing was held at Bournemouth Town Hall on Thursday to open the inquest.
Coroner’s officer Jon Lustig said: “On the afternoon of July 31, Dorset Police and the British Transport Police were notified of a male having been struck by a train close to Sherborne.
“Emergency services attended. British Transport Police commenced an investigation and there is no evidence of third-party involvement.”
A post-mortem provided a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.
Senior coroner for Dorset Rachael Griffin adjourned the inquest and requested statements from Mr Flanagan’s family, his GP, the British Transport Police, Dorset Police and the mental health team.
The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing in March 2023.
