THINK you can build a boat? Swanage RNLI's boat-building competition returns as part of their Lifeboat Week later this month.
The much loved event kicks off on Saturday, August 20 and sees competitors given a host of materials and four hours to build a boat fit for racing around The Stone Quay.
Boats use a broom handle as a paddle and are predominantly made out of plywood and timber with crews allowed to bring hand tools to help aid with the assembly.
All vessels to be “Sea Checked” by RNLI personnel before the race starts: The winner is the first team to get their boat and paddle from The Stone Quay, round the course and into the finish area.
Entry costs £30 per team with a £50 cash prize for first place. To enter or find out more contact Colin at Jewson in Swanage or Swanage Lifeboat Station (01929 423237 or email swanage@rnli.org.uk).
