THOUSANDS of people spent the weekend jammin’ in Kings Park in Boscombe at a reggae festival.

Bournemouth Reggae Weekender, held from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31, saw headline acts take to the stage in what was described as a “world of color, entertainment, and diversity.”

Sunday saw Macka B and Roots Ragga Band headlining the day, with DJ sets from DJ Pepper and Lady Banton.

On Saturday, Aysha Loren headlined after DJ sets from DJs Roy Medallion and Martin Jay delighted the crowd, with Friday seeing headliner DJ Ras Kwame.

The event also raised awareness of prostate cancer, where a charity will be nominated after wristband sale donations are totalled.

Event director Ray Nyenje said: “We are doing this as a multi-cultural event that we do every year where we get African and Caribbean artists to come in play their reggae music.

“This is the second year and it has proven to be more popular. Given the way we were doing things last we when we were coming in as a new entry.

“Now we are much more flexible, the line-up is a lot more tighter and we are even more busy this time. Artists are doing 30 minutes to allow all, and the team is getting bigger.

“We’ve even got the police and BCP Council sponsoring us – everyone is supporting the project.

“We expect during the weekend there was 5,000 to 10,000 people here over the three days.

“Yesterday as a lot of fun, it started slow but it started to pick up as the day went by.”

At the event there were several trade stands, many of them selling CDs and vinyls, as well as food vans selling Caribbean food.
