THE high street in Westbourne is closed off to traffic while fire crews respond to an incident involving loose brickwork.

The aerial ladder platform from Westbourne Fire Station is currently in Poole Road and emergency services deal with the situation.

As a result, the road is blocked with traffic being diverted.

The fire service has asked people to avoid the area.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We’re currently dealing with an incident on Poole Road in Westbourne involving loose brickwork.

“The road is blocked by our aerial ladder platform whilst the building is made safe – local traffic is being redirected, please avoid the area.”

The fire service were called at 8.45am to deal with a dangerous structure.

Alongside the aerial ladder platform, an officer and a fire engine are at the scene, as well as representatives from BCP Council.

The road reopened at around 4pm following work by contractors to ensure the building was safe.
