AT A GENERAL election we have a system whereby the electorate vote for the person they want to be their constituency member of Parliament.

However, everyone considers the political party they want to represent them and the leader of a party.

What weighting we put on those three points has recently been the subject of much discussion.

That said our system does not enable us to vote for the leader of a political party.

In the case of Boris Johnson, it would seem quite likely that many people voted for him, to do this, it meant that they voted for a Conservative member of Parliament to represent them.

This is probably what happened in a lot of the so-called red wall seats, and it will be interesting to see at the next election if they will continue to do so, whosoever is the sitting Prime Minister.
