WHATEVER the rights or wrongs of this particular planning application (‘Travellers’ site proposal is thrown out’, Echo, July 23), the long-term issue remains: the provision of sites for travelling people.

To me, a travelling life is no less acceptable than a ‘sedentary’, house-bound life, just different.

Given that some want to live this way, we should look to find reasonable, compromise solutions that meet the concerns of all.

A permanent site with suitable facilities, for which the travelling community pay maintenance, has to be part of the solution to an issue which will never otherwise be resolved.
