POOLE Coastguard has shared advice for people visiting the coast this summer.

This comes during National Marine week which celebrates all things marine and encourages everyone to get outside and learn about the sea and its inhabitants.

A spokesperson from Poole Coastguard said: “With the warmer weather gracing our shores you may be tempted to get out and about to explore for yourself, and although we’re all for learning more about the sea and our coasts, it can be easy to get in trouble if you’re not careful.”

Here are five ways to prepare before your visit which can help you stay safe:

  • Check the tide times before setting out and plan your outing for when the tide is going out.
  • Make sure someone knows where you’re going and what time you expect to be back.
  • Supervise children closely.
  • Always keep an eye out for incoming tides, they can quickly cut off your way of getting back safely.
  • Consider joining a dedicated group or expert, rather than exploring unaccompanied.

If you get into trouble or see anyone in difficulty around the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
