HUNDREDS of traffic cones lined the pavement of a busy Bournemouth road in an attempt to tackle the highly publicised illegal parking seen last week.

BCP Council placed scores yellow traffic cones down the pavement of East Overcliff Drive in a direct response to the “dangerous” illegal parking reported on Sunday, July 17.

As reported, multiple cars were parked illegally on the pavement down East Overcliff Drive on Sunday with bus operators Morebus and Yellow Buses saying their vehicles were becoming stuck.

In response to this, BCP Council’s member community safety and regulatory services Cllr Bobbie Dove said the council was “reviewing” the situation and were looking into measures to “prevent a repeat of this”.

Close to one week after the chaos and the council have placed cones along the pavement and warn that anyone who attempts to remove them would be liable to enforcement action.

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “In the light of the exceptional parking problems in Bournemouth last weekend, we introduced a TTRO (Temporary Traffic Regulation Order) to place yellow traffic cones across East Overcliff Drive.

“This is to prevent unauthorised parking and to facilitate issuing on-the-spot-fines and vehicle tow-aways without an observation period.

“These cones will remain in place for as long as is required and are in response to the heavy use of the road during the recent very hot weather.

“Any driver removing cones and parking in this area would be liable to enforcement action.”

The council says it issued more than 1500 parking tickets to illegally parked cars last weekend and that its parking enforcement team and tow company will be out working again this weekend.
