ALCOHOL can now be served at the new pop-up restaurant along Southbourne promenade.

A licensing committee at BCP Council granted SOBO Beach the permit to serve alcohol between 10am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday.

The restrictions on percentage only apply to beers over 6.5 per cent and shots are not permitted, something which operations manager Rich Slater said is “in line with company policy already”.

Rich added: “We run family restaurants, and alcohol, whilst a part of our offering, is always secondary to our food.

“We are extremely pleased that we have finally had confirmation of the license, albeit that we are already running at a deficit after missing two weeks of heatwave when people were looking for a nice cold beer or glass of rosé with their food and went elsewhere.

“Here's hoping for a busy summer ahead.”

Dorset Police asked for a limit of 9.30pm for drinks sales and also wanted to not allow the sale of shots/shooters and stronger beers or ciders above 5.5per cent.

The owners of SOBO Beach asked for a music and drinks licence until 10pm each day, with music able to start from noon and drink sales, both on and off the premises, from 10am.
