CALLS have been made to finally replace the toilets which were devastated at the seafront in March – as the portaloos currently in place are branded a “health hazard”.
On Wednesday, March 30 a fire was started in the toilet block at Portman Ravine along the seafront, near Fisherman's Walk.
Temporary portaloos have been put in place, but residents have noted are consistently left in an “absolutely horrendous” state.
The women’s toilets have recently reopened, but the gent’s are still being repaired – with portable toilets in place.
One resident, who was trying to tuck into a salad, has been left appalled by the horrors which lay within the portaloos and has been reporting the situation many times.
She said: “You just get fed up reporting it to the four rangers that are just doing their job at Fisherman's Walk.
“This weekend has been absolutely horrendous, with all the visitors to the beach.
“They were cleared out on Friday, but by Monday it was a health hazard.
“On the Friday I was eating my salad and the toilets were so appalling that the ranger had to go back and empty his truck before he could come back and finish the job.”
The fire in March was believed to have been started deliberately, with damage to the toilets costing around £35,000 to repair.
Nobody was injured in the fire, but, according to Bournemouth police officer PC Steve Candy, “the damage caused was significant.”

A BCP Council spokesperson confirmed the repairs to the toilets are continuing, adding: “Portable loos were situated nearby as a temporary measure, but there are alternative toilets 500 metres to the east and to the west of this location.
“The seafront cleansing team do an amazing job cleaning the blocks along the seafront at least three times a day, all year round, as well as cleaning and disinfecting behind beach huts.
“They do this seven days a week between 7am and 10pm and we are now stepping up the quality and frequency of cleaning during the busy summer season.
“The seafront team can be contacted on 01202 123500 seven days a week during normal office hours or by email bournemouth.seafront@bcpcouncil.gov.uk where the team will then respond to any cleaning concerns.”
Dorset Police confirmed no arrests have been made in relation to the fire and enquiries are still ongoing.
