A CEREMONY has marked the start of construction for 161 new rental homes at Holes Bay as part of the council’s hopes of “regenerating Poole”.

Ground was broken at Carter's Quay on July 15 on BCP Council’s joint venture with Inland Homes to create a mixed-use development of new homes, hospitality and retail opportunities.

Situated between the bridges on the waterfront at Hamworthy, the council’s acquisition of the Carters Quay scheme forms part of BCP’s wider regeneration programme.

Investment has been made into Poole with hopes to “create a healthy, vibrant environment where people can live and work, and businesses can thrive”.

Cllr Philip Broadhead, deputy leader and BCP’s portfolio holder for development, growth and regeneration, said: “Regenerating Poole at pace is one of the top headlines in our Big Plan, and here we are getting started on site with exactly the sort of vibrant scheme that this waterfront deserves.

“We said we would deliver much needed homes for the community and ensure they contribute towards our wider promise to revitalise Poole.

“The opportunity to provide a mixed-use scheme of new homes and hospitality and retail opportunities really hits the bullseye, as we help create one of the best coastal places in the world in which to live, work, invest and play.

“I look forward to spotting the crane in the sky when I’m in the town over the next few months and seeing this priority area for our regeneration plans progress.”

BCP FuturePlaces has been working with developer Inland Homes, advising on design and place making aspects with the shared aim of completing a high quality and sustainable development with an enhanced waterfront promenade and public realm.

Nish Malde of Inland Homes added: “We are delighted to work with BCP Council to deliver these much-needed new homes and to achieve their vision of creating a sustainable, healthy and vibrant place to live. It’s wonderful to be part of this vital regeneration of Poole by constructing high quality, sustainable homes.”

Carters Quay is anticipated to complete by the end of 2024 and will include 161 apartments, consisting of 62 x 1 bed, 96 x 2 bed and 3 x 3 bed apartments.

The homes will be available for private rent through the council’s wholly owned company Seascape Homes and Property Limited.
