ANOTHER illegal traveller encampment was set up in the car park at Tower Park in Poole this morning.

Caravans and vans arrived in the car park of Tesco superstore in Tower Park in Yarrow Road at around 8am on Monday morning, it is understood.

Workers in the store say customers have been complaining about the travellers blocking the entry and exit of the car park.

Litter and bin bags can be seen on the road and parking spaces surrounding the caravans. 

The latest illegal encampment is on private property, with Tower Park owning the land and leasing it out to Tesco. 

Police are working with Tesco to remove the travellers.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: Dorset Police received a report at 8.26am on Monday 18 July 2022 of an unauthorised encampment in the car park at Tesco in Yarrow Road, Poole.  

“Officers are patrolling the area and have spoken to those present, as well as the landowner.  

“We will continue to monitor the situation with BCP Council and will look to take appropriate further action if required.” 

A Section 61 has since been issued, and the travellers were confirmed by BCP Council to have been removed thisw afternoon.

In recent days, travellers have been seen setting up illegal encampments across Canford Heath.

BCP Council were made aware last Thursday (July 14) of around nine units and associated vehicles situated in the green area between Stinsford Road and Ryall Road. 

The previous night, believed to be separate, was also set up on the land in the nearby Sopers Lane. 

It is unclear if the latest illegal encampment at Tower Park is in connection with the previous incidents.
