BARBECUES along the seafront at Branksome are out of order after contractors working at a café damaged the electricity cable.

The council confirmed they aim to fix them “as soon as possible” after builders at the Rockwater Café at Branksome Chine damaged an electricity cable to the barbecues.

A spokesperson for BCP Council said: “Unfortunately, the barbecues at Branksome are currently out of service due to contractors working nearby at Rockwater Café building which has damaged the electricity cable to the BBQs.

“Repair work has been scheduled to get the BBQs back in use as soon as possible.”

Thirty free-to-use barbecues were installed at locations along the waterfront last year, with them being dotted at Fisherman’s Walk, Branksome Chine and close to Bournemouth Pier.

But residents have also noted the barbecues have been left with litter on and in a poor state, as people fail to tidy up after themselves.

The spokesperson for BCP Council added the barbecues are “easy to clean, simply requiring a wipe down between use.

“Our seafront teams ensure they are cleaned daily and any litter removed as part of their daily tasks.”

The barbecues which do work are free to use all year round.
