A ROUNDABOUT in Christchurch has re-opened following a water leak that caused chaos for motorists.

Emergency repairs on Fountain Roundabout have been completed, seeing it fully re-open- and earlier than expected.

As reported, one lane of the roundabout was forced shut after a water main burst, causing heavy traffic in the area.

On Tuesday, a Bournemouth Water spokesperson said: “Our team is on site repairing a burst water main in the central reservation of the duel carriageway on Fountain Way, Christchurch.

"To ensure the fix can be carried out safely, a single lane closure will be in place in both directions of the carriageway.

"We will look to repair the burst and reinstate the road as quickly as possible and would like to thank customers for their patience.”

Yellow Buses also reported seeing delays of up to 60 minutes on some of its services on Tuesday. Posting on Twitter, a spokesperson said: "Due to roadworks in Christchurch, we are seeing delays on routes 1, 1a, 1b, 4, 33, and Buster's Beach Bus of up to 60 minutes due to emergency works on the Christchurch Bypass."

Bournemouth Water had expected the repair to be completed by Thursday, although the roundabout had been cleared by Wednesday evening.
