DORSET traffic cops caught a driver doing nearly 100mph in Dorset – nearly double the speed limit.

A car was caught travelling at 99mph on a dual carriageway at a section where two sites of fatal accidents had previously occurred.

The speed was nearly 50 per cent over the limit requiring 182 metres to stop, with the standard at 70mph being 96 metres.

Elsewhere, a car was caught travelling at 78mph in a 50mph area of a duel carriageway, again passing two sites of fatal accidents in the last year.

The speed was one and a half times the limit requiring 116 metres to stop, with the standard being 53 metres.

A truck was also caught for Dorset Traffic Cops travelling along national speed limit roads travelling slowly, shedding parts of an uncovered load.

That same day, Dorset Police had eight separate reports of lost loads obstructing key roads within the county.

A spokesperson said: “Every driver was reported for these offences - those at excess speed will likely attend court where fines, points and disqualification are possible (especially given one was also without insurance at the same time!).

“The tipper driver was prohibited from moving until the load was redistributed and covered.”
