A MAJOR emergency service response rushed to a rescue a climber who had fallen in a remote area near the Dorset coast.
An air ambulance and land ambulance were joined by police, fire and coastguard colleagues to deal with the incident at Winspit Quarry on Saturday afternoon.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesman said: “At approximately 12.45pm on Saturday, July 9, HM Coastguard received a report of an injured climber at Winspit Quarry.
“Swanage and St Albans Coastguard Rescue Teams, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and Dorset Police were sent. The casualty was extracted to an ambulance.”
As reported, the climber fell 15 metres from a wall.
They suffered leg and possible spinal injuries after landing on their feet, Swanage Coastgard said.
A stretcher was used to get the climber to an ambulance.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 12.33pm on Saturday, July 9, to an incident at Winspit.
“We sent an air ambulance, an operations officer and a double-crewed land ambulance. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Poole Hospital.”
