THE reports on councillor allowances have been republished after a number of errors and omissions were found.

BCP Council had to update the publicly accessible document for 2019/20 and 2020/21 following a ‘forensic examination’ by officers.

Resident Philip Gatrell raised his concerns about the previously published details of member allowances at an audit and governance committee meeting earlier this year.

The local authority has recently published the revised documents on its website.

It has not yet been decided by monitoring officer Susan Zeiss if she will have to produce a report under the requirements of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 on a contravention of law related to publication of members allowances.

A BCP Council spokesperson: “Following errors and omissions identified within the Members Allowances reports, revised versions were published to the council website.

"The revised reports contain detailed explanation notes on what changes were applied and why. This aligns with the council’s main priorities for ensuring both openness and transparency.

“The monitoring officer is considering whether the issue of a s5 or s5A (Local Government and Housing Act 1989) report is required.’’
