Dorset will continue to bask in sunshine this week, as a heatwave is set to hit the county.

Forecasters have been predicting temperatures could reach their mid-30s and higher, breaking records for some parts of the UK.

The Met Office predicts central areas of England will push 28C on Tuesday, with the south west hitting 23C.

Over the weekend, Dorset weather enthusiast Dorset Sun said: "Confidence growing that Monday will mark the beginning of a week long heatwave.

"Widespread temperatures in the high 20s with some spots reaching the low 30s.

"A small chance of mid 30s by 16/17th July."

He also said: If there is no rainfall by July 18, we would enter a period of drought. The last rainfall was on July 3.

A heat-health alert has also been issued for some regions, with those in affected areas advised to shade or cover windows and check on the vulnerable and the elderly.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warning will be in force from July 11 until July 15.

High pressure continues to control the weather into next week, with highs of 31C possible on Monday and above 32C on Tuesday.
