Beach campers were spotted at Sandbanks over the weekend - risking a £1,000 fine from the council.

Tents were spotted at the beauty spot on Saturday night and remain there this morning.

One resident said the campers had stayed overnight.

Residents have expressed concern at the lack of visible enforcement of beach rules and rise in anti-social behaviour over the weekend.

It comes just days after police and BCP Council warned the area would be particularly busy this weekend due to two major events and roadworks causing traffic delays.

There have also been problems over the weekend with 'boy racers' at Sandbanks, something which police said would be targeted under Operation Sandman.

The multi-agency operation was set-up last year to prevent ASB and violence linked to large groups of young people on Poole beaches during summer evenings, as well as dealing with boy racers and beach fires.

No overnight sleeping or camping is allowed on the beach, seafront, cliffs or car parks.

BCP Council have warned people should be prepared to be disturbed as a '24-hour beach patrol will be repeatedly visiting' to gather evidence for prosecution and you could face a £1000 fine. 

Last year we reported that nine people were facing prosecution for camping overnight on the beaches.
