It really could feel like LA this weekend in Bournemouth as parts of the UK are set to swelter in hot temperatures.

Parts of the country reached 28C this afternoon, surpassing top European holiday destination such as St Tropez, Marbella and Santorini.

The Met Office has said we are likely to see a consistent run of high temperatures over the next few days, meaning Britons could bask in an official heatwave.

A heat health alert has been issued for some areas who are expected to experience the heatwave, including parts of the south.

A spokesperson for UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), said: "Temperatures are likely to stay close to threshold through Wednesday, especially in southern areas.

"There is then uncertainty in maximum temperatures for later in the week and over the following weekend.

"There is the potential for a brief dip in temperatures on Thursday and early Friday, although still feeling very warm, which may result in alert levels being reduced.

"This will be followed by a return to hot or very hot temperatures from late Friday 15th and into the following week. This alert will be kept under review as confidence in the forecast increases."
