VISITORS travelled in vintage vehicles as part of a celebration for Bournemouth's "iconic" buses at the weekend.

Kings Park hosted the Sunday event, which saw more than 40 vehicles on display.

A number of historical Yellow Buses also drove routes across the Bournemouth conurbation throughout the day.

Organiser Jay Thornton told the Daily Echo: "Today is a celebration of 120 years of Bournemouth transport.

"We haven't been able to hold this event since 2019 due to the pandemic but we are really pleased today with the fantastic turnout.

"We have had nearly a thousand spectators coming to see the vehicles.

"It's nice to see people come together after such a negative time and to be able to celebrate Bournemouth transport history. It's one of the very few operators to obtain its original colour scheme.

"Everyone is really enjoying the day, we have got the buses going out with full passengers.

"We have had the Bournemouth Mayor, Cllr Bob Lawton visit.

"We took him out on fleet number 15 which is a preserved vehicle from 1939.

"It has not been out for 50 years, it's just undergone a major renovation and it had its first trip today with him."

The opportunity to ride in some of the older vehicles was deemed "unmissable" by visitor Mark, a bus enthusiast.

Mark said: "These cars take you back in time, they create a sense of nostalgia that many people could probably appreciate right now."

The free event took place at Kings Park, Bournemouth, on Sunday, July 3.
