The winners of the Dorset Hero Awards 2022 have been announced.

After considering hundreds of incredible entries from our readers and composing a shortlist, it was even more difficult to whittle this down to a list of winners.

Tracy Hayden, director of advertising for Newsquest Dorset and one of our panel of judges said: “As with previous awards, it was incredibly difficult to choose winners from those that were shortlisted in this year’s awards.

"Each and every person or team shortlisted is doing amazing work locally, whether in a paid or unpaid capacity.

"It’s so heartwarming to hear their stories, and we thank all of you who took the time to nominate those whose actions have impressed you enough to highlight their selflessness and commitment to others.

"We realise that time is at a premium for many of you, but you still took the time to compose some incredible nominations.

"The stories we have heard range from those helping refugees from far afield and a 90 year old volunteer, to a pub landlady raising huge funds for the local hospice.

"Not forgetting an amazing volunteer supporting animals in need and a doctor who despite his own diagnosis, has raised over £100,000 for charity.

“We are so proud to have so many wonderful individuals in our local community, going above and beyond their job remit or giving their own time to volunteer.  We thank you for your dedication."

The winners are:

  • Hero of the Year – Sister Tama
  • Best Fundraiser – Andy Vaughton
  • Best Key Worker – Sally Lord, Pramalife
  • Unsung Hero – Claire Dallison, Every Paw Matters
  • Healthcare Team – UHD Research Team
  • Individual Healthcare Worker – Maria Salamon-Betlej, Poole Hospital
  • Mental Healthcare Award – Dania Moussalli
  • Young Hero – Ola Hamilton

The Daily Echo and Dorset Echo would like to thank all those that took the time to nominate in the awards. Without these nominations we could not shine a light on the wonderful work being done by the Heroes in our communities. We would also like to thank our sponsors for supporting this worthy event.
