A MAN is understood to have suffered a serious leg injury in an accident involving a boat propeller.

Emergency services were called to a Jurassic Coast tourist hotspot following the accident.

The coastguard and an ambulance crew were called to Lulworth Cove on Sunday, June 26 following reports a man caught his leg on a boat propeller. It is thought he was trying to move the boat at the time.

An eyewitness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the Lulworth Cove beach area was spattered with blood following the incident. The blood was reportedly seen on the beach front and leading up to Main Road, towards the parking area at the tourist destination.

James Weld, who manages the Lulworth Estate, said: "Our understanding is that this was a private rib, and the injured man was trying to move the boat off the beach, while the engine was running and in gear.

"I understand that the man was very fortunate."

South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) confirmed a double-crew ambulance was sent to assist.

A spokeswoman for the SWASFT said: "We were called at 6.12pm on Sunday, June 26 to an incident in Lulworth Cove.

"We sent a first responder and a double-crewed ambulance."

The coastguard confirmed the injury to the man was made by a boat propeller.

A spokeswoman from HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard was called after a man suffered a leg injury from a boat propeller.

"We sent Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team to assist him.

"We received information that the patient was taken in his own car to hospital."
