The driver of the Mercedes and two of the passengers in the vehicle were also taken to hospital for treatment.
The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. It reopened at around 4.55pm.
Police Constable Kier Dagnall, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to any motorists who witnessed the collision, or moments leading up to it, to please get in touch.
“If you were travelling in the area and have a dashcam fitted to your vehicle, I would ask you to please check it for any relevant footage to help my enquiries.
“Finally, I am keen to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. This allowed emergency services to safely treat the injured people.”
