PHOTOGRAPHERS and stargazers had their eyes to the skies on Tuesday night for the Strawberry Super Moon.
June’s full moon is known as the Strawberry Moon but this year it was extra special as it was also a supermoon.
A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth along its orbital path.
As a result, it’s much more visible in the sky, around 7 per cent larger and 15 per cent brighter.
The Strawberry Moon gets its name as it was used as an indicator that wild berries were ripe for picking.
It can also be called the Hot Moon, Mead Moon and Rose Moon.
Conditions were just right as for seeing the special event on Tuesday night as conditions were clear.
Members of the Echo Camera Club Dorset captured the spectacle in all its glory and here are just some of the images that have been shared.
The next full moon will occur on July 13 and is known as the Buck Moon and it will also be a supermoon.
