MORE than 20,000 people are expected to attend Dorset's Tankfest later this month.

The three-day event is taking place at The Tank Museum in Bovington from June 24-26.

Visitors can enjoy live tank displays, living history and explore the museum's unique collection.

Tankfest has been a sell-out event since 2015 and currently only Friday and Sunday tickets remain – but are selling fast.

Visitor Experience Manager Rosanna Dean, said: “We have a jam-packed programme for this year’s Tankfest.

"As well as the world-class tank displays, visitors can enjoy military demonstrations, a World of Tanks gaming zone, talks, a variety of traders and caterers, and even a parachute display on Friday."

The museum's enviable collection of armour will be running in the main arena including “Fury” from the film of the same name, a newly refurbished Second World War Churchill tank, as well as more modern favourites like the Challenger 1 and M60. Plus, the British Army are returning to display a range of Theatre Entry Standard vehicles – foremost among them the Challenger 2 MBT.

As well as these regular favourites, visitors can look forward to seeing guest vehicles from other collections.

Tank Museum Curator David Willey, said: “At Tankfest we are proud to be able to display what is the greatest display of historic moving armour in the world.

“We aren’t able to run everything in our collection – and therefore we are fortunate to be able to bring in some ‘guest stars’ to treat the audience and keep the show fresh.”

The current register of guest vehicles includes the world’s only running Valentine DD tank, a Soviet T-34/85, American M18 Hellcat, WW2 Japanese Ha-Go tank, appearing before it’s return to Japan, as well as the French AMX-13 and Panhard AML-90, a Sherman M-51 and a Sherman M4A1 which recently took part in Operation Market Garden commemorations.
