Properties were flooded after a water main burst in Lytchett Minster.

Fire crews, police and Wessex Water were called to the scene on Thursday afternoon to deal with the issue, which saw the road and properties flooded.

The incident occurred outside the St Peters Finger pub in Dorchester Road.

Fire crews pumped out affected properties, asking people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We're currently dealing with a burst water main in #LytchettMinster alongside Police, Local Authority and the Water Board.

"DorchesterRoad is closed between St Peters Finger Pub and Bakers Arms roundabout whilst we pump out affected properties. Please avoid the area."

Cars were only able to pass one at a time with Purbeck Police warning motorists to avoid the road "if possible."

Morebus told passengers that due to the burst water main their 40 service had to divert in both directions.

It was not able to serve South Lytchett Manor Caravan Park, St Peter's Finger, United Reformed Church and Bakers Arms.

PC Matt Weldon tweeted a video which showed the extent of the flooding in the road, with water gushing across the carriageway.
