A LARGE oil tanker has moored in Weymouth Bay.

Sola TS has anchored just off the coast of Weymouth.

The vessel, which was built in 2017 and is classed as a crude oil tanker, arrived today (Thursday, June 9) in Weymouth Bay at 4.43am.

An crude oil tanker moves large quantities of unrefined crude oil from its point of extraction to refineries.

The ship is currently sailing under the flag of Malta.

Prior to its arrival on the south Dorset coastline, the crude oil tanker was last recorded as being moored in Bilbao, Spain on Tuesday (June 7) before departing at 6.13am.

The vessel is 44 metres wide and 250 metres long.

It is not known the ship's next destination or how long it will be moored in Weymouth Bay.
