A PERSON has been airlifted to hospital following a serious crash in north Dorset yesterday.

The two vehicle collision occured just after 4pm near Thickthorn Cross, north of Blandford, on the A354.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene with motorists told to avoid the area. The road was closed for several hours and re-opened at around 7.30pm.

One person has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital as a result of the crash. Details weren't disclosed about the nature or severity of the injuries sustained.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 15.58hrs on Monday 6 June to a road traffic collision on the A354 near Cashmoor. We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, a critical care car and an air ambulance. We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital".

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 4.09pm of a two-vehicle collision on the A354 north of Blandford near Thickthorn Cross. Officers attended, along with the ambulance service.

"The vehicles were recovered and the road was cleared at around 7.30pm. One person was taken to hospital, but we do not have an update on their condition at this time."
