FIRE crews had to rescue a horse that had got its leg tangled in fence wire in east Dorset.

Emergency service teams were called to Cannon Hill, Wimborne, on the afternoon of Friday, June 3.

After freeing the horse, which was not injured during the incident, the fire service issued a warning to the public about the impact littering can have.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A horse had its hind leg tangled in loose fence wire. The rider calmed the horse and crews from Ferndown and Poole were able to release the wire safely and with no injury.

“We want to take this opportunity to warn people of the dangers and distress discarded litter and materials can cause to wildlife.

“Please discard of unwanted materials in the proper manner so we can help avoid scenarios like this in future.”
