Fifteen years, six studio albums and five tours seems about right to justify a greatest hits album, and that’s exactly what The Script have done.

This tour, the first in over two years, is to mark the release of their career spanning greatest hits, Tales from the Script.

Tonight’s show at BIC’s Windsor Hall is about a quarter way through the tour and was competently supported by Ella Henderson (one of the most successful acts not to win X-Factor).

Ella held the audience’s attention with her six-piece ensemble and belted out a host of songs culminating in “the one which kicked it all off” Ghost.

A great warm up for the main event. Watch out for her solo tour in the autumn.

The anticipation from the sell-out Windsor Hall crowd was palpable and we weren’t to be disappointed.

What was to come turned out to be something really special. The set opened with Danny in the centre of the stage under a single spotlight and then boom.

Cannons covered the audience in confetti as the band launched into Superheroes quickly followed by Rain and We Cry. With piles of energy, humour and showmanship from the get-go, rarely have I seen a better start to a gig.

Paint The Town Green, a particular highlight, saw the stage lit green throughout the song and the guys all playing drums in the pit at the edge of the crowd.

Audience interaction is a big thing with The Script and that theme ran throughout the evening, climaxing in the Dublin trio Danny, Mark and Glen performing three numbers from within the audience.

Notably they sang Nothing to Kelly (an ex-girlfriend of one of the fans) over his phone and another fan, Eve, got to play the final note from Never Seen Anything on Danny’s keyboard. I am sure she will dine out on that for years to come.

Back on the main stage, the band performed yet more hits and introduced a bit of Pyro with flares during Something Unreal and a waterfall of sparks during the set closer For the First Time.

The Script left the stage with the crowd continuing to sing the last couple of lines from For The First Time and baying for more.

Of course, there was an encore which featured Breakeven and Hall of Fame.

The final wow moment being streamers being shot over the crowd almost reaching the back of the auditorium.

There was not an ounce of pretentiousness, just a group of mates playing great songs with humour and enthusiasm. A truly spectacular live show not to be missed.
