A driver caught doing 73mph in a 40mph zone in Bournemouth told police he 'wasn't local'.

Officers from the No Excuse team caught the vehicle travelling at almost double the limit in the 40mph stretch of Ringwood Road, Bournemouth towards Bearcross.

Another drivers was seen going 100mph in the opposite direction during the time spent at the hotspot.

A spokesperson for the team said: "The 20-year-old driver who claimed he wasn’t local, not realising it was 40mph, was very apologetic and worried of the consequences with already having three points and only having his licence for just over two years.

"We recognised the driver, done a quick search and found we gave the driver a ticket recently for parking on zigzags in Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth, another hot spot.

"The driver will be attending court at this speed and the likely outcome is a period off the road."

Officers said the road is still causing concerns with other speeds detected above 70mph with tickets issued and one seen going in the opposite direction at 100mph.
