A MAN will have to pay more than £400 after failing to pay a train fare of less than £3.

Luke Wigmore was proved in his absence to have failed to pay the £2.90 rail fare at Pokesdown station on November 10, 2021.

The 28-year-old, of Stour Road, Christchurch, was not present at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court when he was sentenced on Tuesday, May 24.

Magistrates fined the defendant £220 for the offence and ordered him to pay compensation of £2.90.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £160.

It means, in total, Wigmore will have to pay £416.90 for a £2.90 rail fare.
