A BROADSTONE runner took on a half marathon for a children’s cancer charity.

Lorraine Squibb, from Broadstone, took on the London Landmarks Half Marathon last month to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer, a UK cancer charity for children and young people.

Despite having only just recovered from Covid, Lorraine completed the run, which passes major landmarks in London such as Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Gherkin, and raised £2,910 for young people facing cancer.

Lorraine was inspired to put her fitness to the test after her friend Lee’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer at just 11 years old.

Since her diagnosis, Lee’s family have received financial and emotional support from a Young Lives vs Cancer social worker.

Lorraine said: “I decided to fundraise and run for Young Lives vs Cancer because my friends’ daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia in May 2021.

"When her mum Lee told me about the support they were receiving for her, and her daughter Pippa it was a no brainer who to run for in London Landmarks.

"They have been incredibly helpful and just a call away if needed. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer.”
