A MAN has been fined by the courts for holding a mobile phone in front of him while he was driving.
Daniel White, 46 and of Saffron Way, Bournemouth, was alleged to have been a driver not in position to have proper control on the B181 North Bassett in Ongar, Essex, on August 18 last year.
White was said to have been driving a Volvo C30 at 7.17am when he was holding a mobile phone on his hand in front of him “at the three o’clock position”.
The defendant pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure and was not required to attend court.
The case was dealt with by a single magistrate sitting in an administrative closed-doors hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 6.
White was fined £133 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and £90 costs.
His driving record was endorsed with three points.
