VISITORS to Poole’s heaths have been urged to look out for suspicious activity following recent fires.

Wardens for Poole’s heathland said it had been a “difficult” time for the team after two fires on Canford Heath, one of which devastated an area the size of 23 football pitches.

A spokesperson said: “After the recent fire on Canford heath which devastated approximately 23 football pitches’ worth of pristine lowland heathland habitat, more fires have been popping up around our sites.

“With one behind Warburton Road on Friday and another on Canford heath a day later towards the Belben Road end of the site it’s been a difficult time for the team.

“Fortunately, our amazing firefighting services dealt with both very quickly due to the swift information sent in by members of the public, but it’s more important than ever that all visitors keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour on our heath and report to us or the emergency services, depending on what you see.”

Visitors have also been reminded BBQs and fires are not allowed on the nature reserves.

The spokesperson added: “If you see anyone having one and feel comfortable to engage with them, please let them know it isn’t permitted and make sure it is doused. If you aren’t comfortable speaking to them, please inform us or the emergency services asap.”
