For a long time now I haven’t bothered with the Eurovision Song Contest but this time I felt it was so important.
Was delighted that UK’s Sam Ryder with ‘Space Man’ came number one with the voting panel, then second after the public vote: best result since 1998.
Yet somehow even more exited and emotional that Ukraine, the Kalush Orchestra with Stefania reached number one with so many votes.
Other times we in UK might have felt disappointed that we did not win - but with the war in Ukraine and the misery brought upon them by the Russians - I think it was a fantastic result for both Ukraine and Britain. It was a win we would have all wished for.
UK voters could not have voted for our Sam Ryder so I imagine they all voted for Ukraine. A great uplift for Ukraine within their hostile and sad moments that shows the United Kingdom, its people and many other nations fully support and are with them.
Let the people of Ukraine feel good about this and know that they are not alone.
