A SECOND investigation has been launched by police over another fire at Canford Heath.

Fire crews rushed to the nature reserve on Saturday evening to tackle a blaze following scores of 999 calls from members of the public.

The incident near eastern edge of the site was quickly extinguished, with the fire limited to an area around 20 metres by 10 metres.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 6.52pm on Saturday, May 14, of a heath fire in the area of Belben Road in Poole. Officers attended to assist the fire service.

“Following liaison with the fire service, it is believed the fire was started deliberately.

“Officers have carried out enquiries into the incident and no arrests have been made at this time.”

The incident took place three weeks after a wildfire, which was believed to have been started by human action, devastated a massive area of the heath.

The police investigation into that incident is still ongoing and no arrests have been made. Authorities have said it could take 20 years for the land to recover.
