AN “INCREDIBLY supportive” homeless man from Boscombe has had a fundraiser set up for him by a man living in Warwick.

Simon Radcliffe set up a GoFund Me page after Alan Smith lost his home.

Nicknamed ‘Wolfie’, Alan had been living in a tent with his dog Izzy in Boscombe high street and underneath the nearby pier until he was put into temporary housing on Friday, May 6.

Simon met Alan some years ago when he was down in Bournemouth whilst his son was in rehab for addiction issues.

Alan helped his son recover and was a huge help for him.

Simon said: “Alan was doing well at that point and he was incredibly supportive. He was a lifeline.

“If my son Ben was in A&E, Alan would call me, reassure me that Ben was OK and he was getting food and was looked after. He was incredibly supportive.”

“It’s really sad that Alan has gone downhill and lost his home. I felt like I should really like to help him out, so I set up the fundraiser.”

Alan suffers from PTSD and struggles with his mental health, but a job would help him “enormously,” added Simon.

“Any money raised would help Alan. Even if he could buy a secondhand van he could go out and do deliveries.

“It’s very hard for him, he’s still struggling with his demons but at heart he’s a really nice guy. He's a fixer of other people.

“It’d be great if he can become independent, get a job and into permanent accommodation.”

Alan said: “It’s incredible what Simon is doing for me, he’s a really supportive guy and I’ve known him since when his son was having treatment down here.

“Ideally, I want to get back in the working environment. I know the removals business inside out, so the money would go towards a van for that.

“It would mean everything. I would get my independence back, my self-confidence back and my self-esteem back.

“I would be deeply grateful for anything to help me get back on my feet.”

Donations can be made on Simon’s GoFundMe page.
