RESIDENTS are being asked to help shape the future of Poole High Street by sharing memories and ideas in a series of upcoming events.

Dorset-based arts and wellbeing organisation CoCreate is inviting Poole residents get involved in a project in which they will be asked what they think, feel and remember about the town high street in years gone by.

At the end of the project titled YOUR Highstreet, the CoCreate team will use all ideas, artwork, writing and images collected during free creative workshops into a document about Poole High Street – after which it will be used by sponsors BCP Council, Historic England and Poole BID to help inform future decisions.

This will take place amid a million-pound town centre investment scheme which has already seen several listed buildings in Poole High Street undergo restoration work in order to “revitalise its old town charm”.

Project lead Rosie Edwards said: “We want to celebrate Poole’s incredible heritage and hear from you what you’d like to happen on your high street, and what sort of place it could become in the future. We love getting to know new people through being creative, crafty and discovering more about the place we live.

“We’ll be on Poole High Street on three Saturdays in May, June and July and invite all Poole residents and visitors alike to take part and have a chat with us.”

Gemma Alldred, co-director at CoCreate, added: “Our wealth of combined experience, and our varied backgrounds have come together to create new projects which are about making great art and improving wellbeing.

“Creativity is a great way to explore ideas, thoughts and feelings. That’s why Your HighStreet is a really exciting opportunity for CoCreate to meet with the communities in Poole, connect with local artists, and discover more about how people feel about their high street and its heritage.”

The YOUR HighStreet events will be held from 9.30am to 4pm in Poole High Street outside Poundstretcher near Hill Street on May 28, June 18 and July 2.

Participants can drop in for a chat or stay for the longer creative workshops. Visit cocreate.org.uk/ for more information.
