COASTGUARD crews were sent to a boat “hard aground” near Bournemouth Pier.

Southbourne Coastguard was tasked along with Poole Coastguard Rescue Team to the incident just after 4pm on Sunday, May 8.

A spokesperson for Southbourne Coastguard said: “Once on scene we provided casualty care to one of the occupants of the boat and also assessed the pollution risk from fuel on the boat.

“At this point we also requested assistance from Poole Coastguard Rescue Team.

“Fortunately, the occupants had removed their excess jerry cans of fuel to the beach but to minimise the risk of pollution we deployed two water technicians to remove the main fuel tank from the vessel and to ensure the fuel line we secured.

“At the same time, we tried to ensure the vessel was secure with the anchor on the beach.

“This will then allow the boat owner to organise recovery.

“With the casualties safely on the beach and the risk of pollution minimised we stood down and returned to station.”
