A MAN died after being hit by a train near Pokesdown station over the weekend.
Officers from British Transport Police were called to the railway line at 12.16am on Sunday, May 8, to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Pokesdown at 12.16am on 8 May following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The spokesperson added: “This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Passengers were held on the train for two hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, one passenger said.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway said passengers were provided with alternative transport home as a result of the incident.
