AN ANNUAL celebration of cycling is to return with a new location for its 50-mile trek all in aid of a children’s charity.

Garmin Ride Out will take place on Saturday August 20 at the new location of Moyles Court School, Ringwood, where riders will be accompanied by some of the world’s top pro-cyclists.

Riders will pedal through the New Forest to raise funds for Action Medical Research, a charity that focuses on funding research to prevent disease and disability in children.

With a new location comes a new route to explore. Cyclists will ride a 50-mile road route winding through the heart of the New Forest National Park. Upon completion, all riders will receive a medal to commemorate the ride.

Those taking part will also be able to rub shoulders with Garmin’s sponsored pro riders and special guests, including Olympic gold medalist Dani Rowe, pro-triathlete Beth Potter and mountain biking star Martyn Ashton. After the ride, participants will enjoy a well-earned meal and drink when they return to the race village.

Jack Fairbrother of Garmin said: “We are hugely excited to bring Ride Out back to the New Forest as we know this is a staple event for both the local and national cycling community.

“With our UK headquarters being located in the National Park, our cyclists ride these routes daily, so hosting an event here brings us immense pride. We’re also incredibly proud to be supporting such an amazing charity in Action Medical Research, who work closely with the cycling community.”

Felicity Louden, head of events for Action Medical Research, said: “For over a decade, Garmin and Action have worked together to host Ride Out, with all funds raised funding research to help protect current and future generations of children. We are so grateful to Garmin for their support and enabling us to continue our life-saving work.”

Last year’s Ride Out event took place in October from St Giles House in Wimborne. A ‘Ride In’ option was also offered for people to take place virtually amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

2022 entries are now open and potential riders are encouraged to visit action.org.uk/events/cycling/garmin-ride for more information.
