I WAS sorry to read that Mr Williams has encountered issues in arranging a street party for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

BCP Council established a dedicated team to promote and support applications for street parties.

Our jubilee webpage also provided full details of how to apply with a guide to holding a resident/neighbour street party for the event.

This information together with the webpage has been promoted across local press, radio, extensively on social media and also in BCP Magazine, delivered to all households.

Mr Williams is quoting from the larger public event guidance, which does not apply to resident jubilee street parties.

At the closing date for applications of April 22nd we are delighted to have received in excess of 300 applications.

The team is now processing these and advising residents, who will then receive a full pack of information to assist them.

We expect that most applications will be granted, except where the applicant has requested the closure of a bus route.

I encourage communities who have not applied for street closures to also get together and celebrate the platinum jubilee with friends and neighbours in their gardens, local parks, open space or even at the beach.

We all need a bit of a celebration, I think.

BCP Council cabinet member for culture and vibrant places
